Operation Phoenix/Comic Book Update

April 11, 2010

Hello Fellow Rangers

By now many have seen the update from Ratkeeper regarding Jon Turtletaub's remarks from Wondercon. The producers answered several questions from Ratkeeper regarding Epix and a possible movie. Although they said there were no direct talks going on right now with Epix, they did say that Jon Tuteltaub's statements, regarding the future Jericho film and the comic sales being directly tied as a launching-point for the Jericho film, were accurate.

That being said, we still believe that Epix may be in the mix down the road. Putting the show on Epix to run the 29 original episodes and then making and putting on TV, a one or two part movie would seem to be the most logical step if Jericho is to return other than a Comic Book. The cost of production will be lower and the risk would be minimal as CBS already owns the series and the cost would be far less than a movie made for release on the big screen.

What we need to do now is to write one email and one post on Facebook, to Epix, asking them to provide us information on how to sign up for Epix.

Example to use:
My name is John Smith, I live in Jericho, KS. I have Time Warner Cable. I understand that you might be adding Jericho to your programming and as a result I want to subscribe to Epix. How can I add Epix channel to my cable service. You can substitute the name of your cable company or satellite carrier.

If you watch content on your I-Phone, I-Pad, X-box or via the internet, tell them that and ask how you access Epix via these mediums; as Epix's concept is a cross media approach looking to get their content across the internet, cable, satellite and on I-tunes.

We need everyone to send an email and a letter or post card to Epix:

EPIX email address: superfan@epixhd.com
Mark Greenberg, President and CEO
Epix
1515 Broadway
New York, New York 10036
epix website: Link

Also we need to get everyone whose is on Facebook to get onto Epix' Facebook page and post a similar message I am Sally Smith, live in NY, NY, want to see Jericho on Epix.
epix Face Book: Link

Ask your carrier, if they will be getting Epix. Contact information for Comcast, Time Warner and Direct TV

ecare@comcast.com
We_Can_Help@cable.comcast.com Comcast Customer Service
215-640-8960 Comcast Customer Service

twc.cotp@twcable.com Time Warner Customer Service

http://support.directv.com/app/ ask Direct TV customer Service Form
800-824-9081 Direct TV customer service number

As we look towards the future we can help deliver numbers that they need to make a business case argument to continue Jericho. In our world, we can do that by buying the comic, including telling friends and family where to buy the comic, spread the word through word-of-mouth and social media and by letting CBS and Epix know we are here and will be willing customers. They will have someone watching and counting so if you can do one email and one Facebook post, that is all we need, no money or real time involved.

A special Thank you to Ranger M in Scottsdale, Arizona for understanding and coming up with a new line in the message that we are sending to Epix. " I understand that you MIGHT BE adding Jericho to your programming and as a result I want to subscribe to Epix. "

Think of it as completing the Census form only easier.

Clarification

My conversation at WonderCon with Jon Turteltaub covered the Jericho comic, future Jericho film, Epix and CBS Films.

I had asked Jon Turteltaub if Epix was still interested in Jericho; he responded yes. Shaun o'Mac raised a question regarding the accuracy of this portion of the conversation, so I went to get clarification from the producers.

I have since received clarification that neither Junction nor Jon Turteltaub are in current talks with Epix. They did say that Jon Tuteltaub's statements, regarding the future Jericho film and the comic sales being directly tied as a launching-point for the Jericho film, were accurate.

In retrospect, my conversation with him was at the end of a long day and it appears that he misunderstood my question regarding Epix. I would characterize my conversation with Jon Turteltaub as positive and hopeful. I want to thank Shaun o'Mac for his comments and letting us know that we needed to get the statements from Jon Turteltaub clarified.

WonderCon Recap

The rangers spoke with about 334 fans.
Saturday we broke all daily records and talked to 197 fans! At times there were three of us all talking to three different fans.

We gave out:

  • 227, 1 inch Jericho Season 3 buttons
  • Over 200 Jericho business cards with info on how to get the comic on the back
  • Used up all the stock of mini posters, magnets and letter size posters
  • Over 70 postcards to Epix (these did not come out until late Saturday)

Jon Turteltaub was amazed that the fans were coming over to the table and telling us they wanted more Jericho.

Jonathan Steinberg was amazed we talked to more fans than we did at Comic Con!

Here is an article and video clip in which Jon Turteltaub tells the interviewer he intends to seek out the Jericho fan table.

Operation Phoenix Update

April 6, 2010

Hello Fellow Rangers,

I wanted to update you on the recent events that transpired at WonderCon which was held in San Francisco this past weekend, April 2-4, 2010. Our team of Rangers were at the event all weekend manning the Jericho Fan Table.

On Saturday, Jon Turtletaub was in town and he was part of a panel that ended around 2:00pm. At 5:30 pm he stopped by the Jericho table and spoke with the Rangers. He was asked about the future of Jericho and specifically about Epix. Jon Turteltaub's response was that Epix was still very interested in Jericho. He went on to say that they (the producers) were also talking to CBS Films about the Jericho movie which means there are two different entities interested in Jericho.
Over the past 2 years, we have tried many approaches including the purchase of a billboard and making a TV commercial. In November 2008, we launched Operation Phoenix the purpose of which was to make a business case statement to the bean-counters at CBS that they need to continue the Jericho story.

Based on the statement from Jon Turteltaub on Saturday, we have achieved that goal through many different avenues from bar graphs and posts on Boards, to letters, ratings on the CW during the re-run last year and to surpassing the numbers they had anticipated in the purchase of the Jericho Comic.

What we need to do now is to write to Epix and ask them to provide us information on how to sign up for Epix.

Example to use:
My name is John Smith, I live in Cheyenne, WY. I have Time Warner Cable. I understand that you are adding Jericho to your programming and as a result I want to subscribe to Epix. How can I add Epix channel to my cable service. You can substitute the name of your cable company or satellite carrier.

We are going to get this done. We just need everyone to help push a little more. It is because of every Jericho fan across the globe that we are here today. The continued purchase of sales of the Comic and helping Epix see the numbers of people who want the show to continue are key to locking this up.

Keep the Faith we are almost home

Operation Phoenix Update

March 31, 2010

Hello Fellow Rangers

2 year post cancellation status:

First I want to send out good thoughts to everyone for Passover and Easter both of which are happening over the next 6 days.

I want to wish Gwen and all the Rangers who will be attending Wondercon this weekend in San Francisco good luck and I hope they enjoy themselves.

http://www.comic-con.org/wc/ WonderCon San Francisco, CA, April 2 -- 4, 2010.

We believe there may be an announcement about the next phase of Jericho's future at WonderCon or in the media surrounding the Easter weekend.

Since last years WonderCon in February 2009 and Comic Con in San Diego in July 2009, we have been watching media reports and have been interacting with Dan Shotz and the people at DDP as they prepared and launched the comic book.

What we have seen of late, taken separately, would be appear to be coincidence or small shout outs from writers. But in the past week, we have seen James Remar, aka Jonah Prouse pop up last week on Flashforward as the "General of Jericho" the paramilitary contractor firm on Flashforward.

Last night Michael Gaston (Mayor Gray Anderson) appeared as a US army General who opposes the President's decision not to hand over a terrorist to his own people. He acts covertly and is accused by a White House aid of committing Sedition. He was in New York trying to keep a nuclear bomb from detonating. We have also had twitter reports that 3 of the actors appeared on the recent episode of 90120.

Flashforward and 24 have one thing in common, Producer and Writer Brannon Braga who used to work on several of the Star Trek shows while employed by Paramount, which also owns Epix. Could this be some type of pre-publicity move by the studio getting Jericho back on people's minds? It is possible, especially since both Flashforward and 24 are serialized drams like Jericho and attract the same type of demographic.

We know that Epix has 5 carrier deals in place and that CBS recently and deliberately took off all Jericho episodes and content from the CBS website. We have also seen a lot of articles pop up recently with Jericho mentions in them.

If a movie or miniseries is in the works then getting people thinking and talking about Jericho is a logical step before making any type of announcement.

I believe we may see something this weekend. We will have a team of Rangers on hand in case something breaks.

I hope everyone is enjoying the Spring as summer is now only 2 months away.

Keep the Faith
Redsox1986

WonderCon Update

WonderCon is this weekend April 2-4. We will have a Jericho Fan Table and a team of rangers working the table.

We will have a twitter feed, which we hope to update a few times a day. You can find the twitter feed here:
